AMY & ELIAV Design Process
2015-2017
Eliav & I would usually decide on a mutual theme for each season. We would do own own independent research and sourcing and then collaborate on the ideas to create a collection.
We would create mood boards in the studio with rough sketches, technical drawings, fabric swatches, inspiration imagery and colour palettes.
We would then analyse who our target market was and what we believed they would be seeking. This would guide the initial ideas into necessary items.
With limited resources in Australia sometimes collections would be highly influenced by what leathers we could source in small quantities. As well as what hardware was available to us.
We wanted to have a large range to cover different pricing brackets. We had many smaller goods like wallets, belts, clutches etc. in the hope that customers would be more willing to invest in their first piece if it wasn't so expensive. We then had our purse and tote range which were affordable pieces. Then we had our top tear range of handbags, satchels & overnight bags which we saw as investment pieces.
Costing sheets were created for each item to ensure they stayed in their pricing category. As part of each seasons business plan, we would create sales forecasting & sales goals.
Sampling was a big part of part design process. Taking ideas from drawings to reality often needed many tweaks. Everything was done in-house from pattern making, cutting, construction to product testing.
With each collection, we experimented with different finishing techniques and refined existing designs.
Once a sample was complete a specification sheet would be created for each product with construction notes.
